New Bag Review: Gucci Soho Disco
This spring I treated myself to a handbag that’s been on my wishlist for (quite literally) years: the Gucci soho small leather disco bag in rose beige. Now I know this bag isn’t new to the fashion world, but that’s exactly why I adore her.
I’ve always loved how classic this bag looks, from the understated logo to the timeless shape, and knew it would go with everything in my closet. Spoiler alert: it has.
I specifically wanted a tan or nude bag in a camera bag style to wear during the warmer months and give my black bags a rest. The Saint Laurent Lou Camera Bag was also a contender, but having two Saint Laurent bags already (which I LOVE), I was ready to try a new luxury designer brand. Plus, I really liked how the Gucci could be more easygoing since it doesn’t have a lot of gold hardware on it.
It’s only been 3 months since I got her, but I can already tell she’s here to stay for years— even decades— to come.
Quality & Durability
I haven’t had her too long, but I’ve been very impressed by the leather so far. It’s pebbled so it’s nearly immune to light scratches. I was a little concerned about the color getting marked up or showing imperfections easily, but so far, nothing seems to stick. I did get a spec of something black and sticky on it while dining out, but it easily came off with me rubbing it out using a dry cloth. Good as new.
My other concern has been dents or folding in on itself in the middle since the leather is pretty malleable. It’s held up well so far and really isn’t caving in or anything. I think it helps to keep it stuffed when it’s not in use.

Style & How to Wear
The top reason I chose this bag is it’s versatility. It can be worn with so many different types of outfits and for so many occasions. It can be worn as a shoulder bag or as a crossbody. With an understated logo, classic camera bag silhouette and timeless rose beige color, it’s the perfect go-to bag.
Running errands? Pair this with denim and a tee. Have a lunch date? Throw on your favorite sun dress and sandals. Going on vacation? This bag will easily take you from day to night and is perfect for exploring cities and other excursions.
I will say that I consider this a more casual bag, but I have definitely worn her out to more casual dinners. I probably wouldn’t take her as an evening bag for formal occasions, like weddings or upscale dinners, but everyday life and casual settings, she’s a winner.
What Fits Inside
This really depends on you. Me personally, I don’t like to carry too much around unless I’m working, traveling or doing a specific activity (like going to the beach or hiking). So for me, this Gucci is the perfect everyday bag that holds all my essentials.
Coming in at 8 in. x 6 in. x 2.5 in., it fits all my essentials which are a card wallet, hand sanitizer, sunglasses in their case, pen, keys and a cosmetics pouch holding everything from lipstick and lip balm to tissues and medicine. I could also throw in my AirPods, but I typcially don’t because I usually don’t need them.

Where to Buy
I debated even putting this in here because it’s such an iconic bag and a lot of people know where to purchase it. But for those why may not, you can get this bag directly from a Gucci boutique like I did or from retailers such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks and Nemian Marcus. You can also purchase it online from those retailers listed as well as from Farfetch (a personal favorite of mine) and My Theresa.
Unless you’re trying to get points at a specific retailer or are having a hard time find it locally, I highly recommend going into the boutique. The associates take such good care of you, you can ask questions and learn more about the bag, and it really becomes more of an experience.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Timelessness of the camera bag silhouette
- Understated logo making it incredibly versatile
- Adjustable strap which is ideal for those who are petite like myself
- Fair price point for a luxury designer handbag at about $1,500 for a full size bag at the time of this post
Cons
- Only one strap/handle. So while it is versatile in terms of the variety of outfits you can wear it with and occasions you can wear it for, it really is not versatile in terms of being able to wear the bag itself in a variety of ways as it really only functions as a crossbody or long strap shoulder bag.
- Light colored linen interior. This really doesn’t bother me, but it has made me more mindful about not letting lipsticks and pens float around in there just in case the cap comes off or the pen gets pushed out. I keep items like that my cosmetic pouch.
Final Thoughts
I adore this bag and highly recommend her. She’s a staple in any modern closet and is going nowhere fast. At almost 10 years old, she’s proven that she immune to trends and is a chic option regardless of what’s walking down the runways.
I’d also highly recommend this bag if you’re looking to make your first-ever luxury designer purchase. She ticks all the boxes and retails for a fair price point in terms of luxury handbags. It’s honestly tough to find a full size hand bag under $2,000 these days.
